I created a Quick Start Guide tailored for The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service’s Data Stewards and Business Analysts onboarding to Erwin Data Intelligence Suite Business User Portal Metadata Governance software application. T

The installation of “Erwin DI BUP” (version 10.2) was the first FEDRAMP deployment of a Microsoft Azure for Government of a Metadata Catalog for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Center for Program Integrity. CMS-CPI’s goal for the Erwin DI BUP application was change management and to use the platform to establish a metadata governance process for several hundred Data Stewards and Business Analysts working across 10 System Applications within CMS-CPI.

 

The goal of the document was to encourage product adoption. CMS-CPI Data Stewards and Business Analysts ingest, augment, map, and manage hundreds of thousands of Schemas and tens of millions of Tables and Columns. They needed to quickly get up to speed on the workflow with a focus on work and not where to find functionalities.
 

The document was created from scratch, focusing on plain language that would appeal to technical and non-technical users. It was developed as a . PDF file rather than a web-based document for socialization among stakeholders and ease of use during live webinar training. Although the Quest Erwin software developed provided a web-based user guide built into the UI, it was useful only to end users already acquainted with Erwin-specific terminology. I created a Quick Start Guide targeting FEDRAMP user roles, rights, and permissions.
 

The Quick Start Guide covers the Erwin DI User Interface and explains the different levels of user permissions and where and how to obtain the Federal Government “Job Code” for access. It lays out the workflow sequence and designated modules that start with ingesting, augmenting metadata into the Metadata Manager Data Catalog, mapping metadata in the Mapping Manager, and creating data governance terms, policies, and rules.
